ARC Co-director Chris Byrne will present a paper Location in new media art at Vivid’s hothaus seminar, in Birmingham on 29th January. In summary, the paper will cover the following topics.
“To what extent are concepts such as location, site or place important to new media art? Does the context within which a new media art work is made or presented change the nature or content of the work? Is the Internet a place? If so, where is it? I will attempt to address the impact that particular places have had, both on the creative processes of artists working with new technologies, and on the presentation of new media art to audiences. I will draw on my own experiences as a curator and producer of site specific, gallery based and networked art projects in Scotland, and also look at models from elsewhere.”
