Sound Toy by Tonne

“One of Perth Concert Hall’s biggest attractions is Threshold artspace – the innovative exhibition which sits in the glass-fronted foyer of the hall” Auditoria, October 2005

“Tonne’s sound toys are part of a new art trend using dynamic data visualization’’, says ARC Co-Director Iliyana Nedkova. In her capacity as Horsecross Creative Director of New Media, Iliyana has curated Players – Horsecross’ exclusive year round celebration of artists’ games and toys. Showing thoughout March 2006 at Threshold artspace, Sound Toys 2002-05 is the first time Tonne’s innovative audio-visual work has been seen in a public gallery as a mini-retrospective.

Players launched in November 2005 with the Scottish premiere of four interactive titles by Peter Appleton, Onno Baudouin and Simon Robertshaw, originally commissioned by the BBC for their large urban screens. Trigger Happy by Thomson & Craighead featured throughout February 2006. Trigger Happy is a clever and engaging take on popular game Space Invaders, “An ungodly alliance of arcade game firepower and literary theory” – J.J.King. Thomson & Craighead’s work appeared courtesy of the Arts Council Collection – the largest loan collection of modern and contemporary British art in the world.

Showing next as part of Players are world or Scottish premieres including First Person by Beverley Hood throughout April; spring_alpha: audiography by Simon Yuill in May; Untitled by Sunny Lee will show during June; Do You Know Your Europe? by Mare Tralla in July; reproduced by Sam Hill across August; September 12 by Gonzalo Frasca in (naturally) September; and Influx by Joanna Kane during October.
